Opened in 1980, the Courier Cafe is the oldest continuous operating restaurant in Champaign County. Located in the historic Courier Newspaper building, The Courier Cafe offers customers fresh quality food, great service, and a local causal atmosphere. Antique toys, glass, and memorabilia line the walls and transport customers back in time. Owner Allen Strong takes great care to offer the public unique yet timeless dishes at reasonable prices.
All bread is baked daily in house at The Courier's sister restaurant Silvercreek. The Courier was one of the first restaurants in the area to bake and use fresh breads and pastries for their dishes. Therefore, all baked items are preservative free and delicious. The Courier also makes fresh soups from scratch, cuts fresh vegetables and makes dressings for it's unique and large salad bar, and offers a selection of hand dipped milkshakes in a variety of flavors as well as other old fashioned ice cream sundaes.
Allen especially likes talking to customers as they reminisce about outings to the Courier with their grandparents as children who now bring their own children in for a delicious breakfast or afternoon treat. The customers are deeply loyal and it's not uncommon to see regulars at the Cafe daily.
Highly recommended for it's fresh ingredients, unique dishes such as the pesto pita, turkey stack, skinny dippers, desserts, daily coffee blends, and commitment to the community.
