Aside from the numerous major and widely used grocery stores like Meijer, Schnucks, County Market, and Walmart in and around Champaign, Urbana, and Savoy including two Aldis (one in East Urbana and another in Champaign), there are also a number of specialty grocery stores in the Champaign Urbana area.
Common Ground Food Co-op in Urbana is a member owned grocery store specializing in natural, organic, and local fruits, vegetables, produce and other items like natural health care products. You can also get hot deli items like soups, sandwiches, fresh breads. It is located on the east side of the Lincoln Square Mall in Downtown Urbana.
A few blocks west on Springfield Ave, Strawberry Fields offers a selection of natural and organic fruits, vegetables and produce, natural body care, special orders, baked goods and a coffee bar.
World Harvest International and Gourmet Foods on East University Ave and 6th St. in Champaign offers a variety of international foods including Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, South-East Asian, foods. They offer a wide selection of olives, cheeses, and sweets from around the world.
There are also Asian stores in Champaign like Mirsung Ethnic Indian Groceries on East Green and Locust, AM-KO Oriental Foods & Gifts on E. Springfield and 1st St.
Annapurna Stores offers a variety of Indian foods and is located in the corner of S. Neil St and W. Healey St. A few doors next to it there is Chang's Oriental Mart offers East-Asian foods.
These small stores cater to the diverse population.
