According to the Homelessness Point-in-Time survey conducted in 2014 by the Champaign County Continuum of Care, there are over 200 people in Champaign County who are experiencing homelessness. According to the survey, a significant number of these individuals also experience disabilities, mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, or HIV/AIDS. There are currently several organizations and initiatives working to address the issue of homelessness in CU.

Organizations

  • C-U At Home: This organization works to house the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness. They are known for hosting the annual One Winter Night event in which volunteers fundraise and commit to spending 12 hours outside in a cardboard box to better understand homelessness.
