Hall namesake
Stuart P. Sherman (1881-1926)
A tremendous educator who deeply understood how to capture and ignite the enthusiasm of his students. Stuart Pratt Sherman was, at the age of thirty years, the youngest full professor in the history of the history of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
As the chair of the Department of English, he was a poplular, capable and just administrator. Dr. Sherman exhibited a noble gift for friendship, and thus won the sincere affections and abiding loyalties of his colleagues and students.
