The Public i is "the only news-focused, collectively-run, non-profit newspaper in Urbana-Champaign." It is published by the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UC-IMC) and is run by volunteers. The Public i "exists to promote individual and community empowerment," and articles tend to focus on social justice issues in the region.
