The University YMCA has long bridged campus and the public.  Established in 1873, this YMCA doesn't have a pool or gym but their wide range of social and civic opportunities more than makes up for it.  They offer a variety of annual and recurring events each year as well as activist groups to get involved in.  A few highlights:
