Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District

The Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District is concerned with making sure that the sewage from the residents of the area is properly transported and treated in order to prevent the spread of diseases in the community and in areas downstream. It has multiple pump stations throughout the regions served; in addition, it operates two treatment plants. The Sanitary District largely serves Urbana, Champaign, Savoy, and Bondville; its district naturally includes the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

The Sanitary District's office hours are currently 8 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

The Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District was organized in May 1921 to relieve the overloaded sanitary sewers and prevent pollution of local resident basements, the Boneyard Creek, and the Saline Branch of the Salt Fork Creek. It was created by a petition of the voters.
