Overview

Urban Neighborhood Connections Center (UNCC) is an after school program in East Urbana, IL that serves K-12 students in Urbana Public School District #116. UNCC was founded by Janice Mitchell in 2010, who transformed an unused warehouse into a viable human service facility. At the center, students participate in an enrichment curriculum that develops educational and technology skills. UNCC provides year round services to the students in the form or after-school and summer programs.

Mission

Urbana Neighborhood connections Center's vision is for a healthy, compassionate, progressive community where all children and families have access to services and supports that empowers successful development. To bring that vision into reality, UNCC provides quality educational, social-emotional, spiritual and recreational enrichments to youth and their families within the context of a safe, structured and nurturing environment.

History

Through a partnership with Champaign Country Housing Authority, Mitchell was able to secure a location for UNCC in a former motorcycle  dealership. Community effort transformed the building to serve students and families in East Urbana. UNCC open on January 19th 2010, and has served over 500 individual students through year-round programming.
